When we announced earlier in the week our new offering of early boarding for those who purchase our Even More Legroom seats, we were doing something that might be confusing to some. We were offering even more added value to an existing offer. We know it’s hard to wrap your head around because most airlines (and even most companies) wouldn’t attempt such feats. In fact, most businesses do the exact opposite, either charging you the same and taking something away or charging you more for something extra.

We believe it’s just plane fair to let those Customers who pay for more legroom to board early, so they can get early access to the overhead bin space. After all, we became an airline in order to “bring humanity back to air travel.”

Don’t want to pay for more legroom? No problem! You already GET MORE legroom on JetBlue than any other U.S. airline offers in coach class. The Even More Legroom seats offer – take a guess – even more legroom! With this offering you can now also board early and have early access to overhead bin space. We know, you’re welcome.

Ok, we digress- back to our seats. We offer plush leather seats and more legroom than any other airline in our class (not to mention 36 channels of free DirecTV at every seat). The average legroom is 31″ and we boast an additional 3″ at 34″. You can compare us to others by visiting Seat Guru (yes, there is an entire website devoted to airplane seat information).

The leather seats aren’t just a fashion statement either, they last longer than fabric seats and are easier to clean, requiring less harsh chemicals. Do you love the leather seats? We also now offer Even More Legroom (EML), for an additional 4″, at 38″ for a nominal fee. We offer 36 EML seats on our A320 planes (rows 2-5, 10, 11, and the emergency exit rows, and four EML seats on our E190s (row 12 and the emergency exit rows). You can view a seating chart here. Be assured that if you are assigned a seat with extra legroom but did not specifically choose it (because all other seats are already booked, etc.) you will not have to pay extra. And- full disclosure- two of those EML seats that are located in the emergency row (10a and f on the A320) do not recline.

We reserve seats in all of Row 1 and Row 6 in our Airbus A320s, and rows 1 and 2 in our EMBRAER 190s, in order to provide advance seat assignments, as requested, to customers with disabilities. Unaccompanied minors are also seated as close as possible to the front of the airplane. We will gladly pre-assign seats to qualified Customers at the time of booking when requested.

Our seats, themselves, are made machined aluminum or aluminum tubes of special alloys made just for aircraft use.  The outer plastic shells are made from special plastics which meet appearance, longevity and regulatory requirements.  Our cushions are specially designed for comfort over a variety of trip lengths using the latest ergonomic principles.  The foam used in the cushions meet the stringent regulatory requirements.  The leather dress covers are specially designed for long wear and cleanability and have additional padding for comfort.  The design of the cut and finish was designed to be in harmony with the aircraft’s interiors.

The seats are extensively tested to meet strength requirements, and are designed specifically with to meet all the latest safety requirements.  All the seat parts are designed to work together to provide the highest level of safety, comfort and consistent quality we can give our customers.

The day was actually about sacrifice; as in people who gave up their lives rather than convert from Christianity. That doesn’t exactly conjure up images of heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. In fact, the connection between Valentine’s Day and romantic inclinations was actually a possible misinterpretation of a Chaucer poem written in 1382 for King Richard II in England to Anne of Bohemia:

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.

["For this was sent on Valentine's Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate."]

The reference to choosing a mate on Valentine’s Day had only to do with King Richard II getting married on that day and was not, by any means, a general reference to a specific day when one should choose a mate (love was not even a common reason for marriage in the 1300′s).

That’s one big OOPS for the history books! Should you return those roses? Take back your sweet-nothings? Or is it a convenient accident that we turned this day of historic strife into one of lovingkindness?

Did you know… that we have both a Department of Social Responsibility as well as a Care Department that monitor and administer charitable aid and varying degrees of support internally and externally in the local and global community?

Representatives from both aforementioned departments have joined forces to form a dedicated Haitian relief team, which is presently working closely with the Haitian Consulate in New York — as well as with the Red Cross and the Give Them A Hand Foundation — to offer our aid in transporting personnel and supplies to the island of Hispaniola by utilizing available seats on our flights to the Dominican Republic. With the matching donation pledge from JetBlue, we have raised more than $100,000 in relief support. The Care & Emergency Response Department, which works internally, have been taking care of our impacted Crewmembers, and Corporate Social Responsibility has been taking the lead with charitable partners and organizations.

We support more than 75 charities monthly via donations through our WECARE program and, in addition, we partner with other non-profit organizations to provide everything from building playgrounds for children to donating blankets to the homeless to offering complimentary airline tickets for charity auctions- to name just a few.

Perhaps that’s why we were voted one of Fortune’s “Most admired companies” back in 2007.
